Tractor Driving & Maintenance Courses

Price: 13-15yrs from £315 per person (+VAT), for a two-day course; over 16s £225 per person (+VAT), for a one-day course

Whether you've been driving tractors for years, or you're learning for the first time, the Hush Farms tractor training courses can teach you all you need to know. Tractor training courses in Devon and Wales and throughout the UK.

Without proper tractor training, serious accidents can and do occur when work involves tractors. Therefore, your employer should provide adequate training, to ensure that all tractors and equipment are operated safely. 

Our HSE approved tractor driving courses are suitable for every level of experience and can be tailored to suit all land-based industries - including operators employed in agriculture, forestry, leisure or marine businesses, and those who are self-employed.

We do our best to be flexible around your needs, so you’re welcome to take the tractor driving courses at one of our sites in Devon or Wales, or we’ll come to a venue near you. Plus, we’ll fit it around your schedule – just let us know your most convenient times.

Course Detail:
Young Person Tractor Driving: 13-15yrs - From £315

Training only, with a Hush Farms Certificate of Attendance on completion

Price: from £315 per person (+VAT), based on 3 people attending
(Travel fees may apply.)

Course length: two days

Course objectives: Basic legislation; pre-start checks & routine maintenance; understanding tractor controls and instruments; safe operation of tractors including use of trailed equipment, three-point linkage mounted equipment, loaders and loader attachments; appreciating the dangers of operating tractors and loaders in confined spaces, different ground conditions and varying terrain.

An understanding of the problems and dangers of PTO equipment is also covered on the course, but people under 16yrs old are not permitted to operate PTO powered equipment under H&S legislation.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Under close supervision, you may be permitted to ride on or operate a tractor within certain limits from the age of 13. You will not be allowed to take a tractor on the highway unless you have passed your DSA Tractor Road Test and possess at least a Provisional Driving Licence.       

Follow up tractor training days can be arranged to suit you.

Course prices are based on tractor training being carried out at our Devon or Wales sites, with a minimum of 2, or maximum of 3, people attending. 

For our on-site tractor courses in Devon and Wales, all equipment is supplied. Additional travel costs will apply if the tractor course is delivered at your site in Devon, Dorset, Somerset or anywhere else in the UK and numbers will be limited to just 2 trainees if only one suitable tractor is available.

Please note: All trainees must be a minimum of 13 yrs old to participate in this young persons tractor driving course. A signed parental consent will be required. Consent forms will be provided and must be returned signed before the course starts.

Tractor Driving & Related Operations - From £225

Accreditation: LANTRA & NPTC
Training only, with a Hush Farms Certificate of Attendance on completion
Candidates must be over 16 years of age to attend.

Novice Trainees
Price: from £410pp (+VAT) for 3 days, based on 4 trainees attending 
This involves LANTRA training and assessment throughout the course - no need for a separate test!

Experienced Trainees
Price: from £240pp (+VAT), per day, based on 3 trainees attending
This involves LANTRA training and assessment throughout the course - no need for a separate test!

Hire of tractors: £125pp (+VAT), based on 4 trainees attending. Other prices apply for smaller group numbers. Travel fees may apply.

NPTC assessments are available, please contact us for details and prices.

Course length: one to five days, depending on experience

Course objectives: Preparation and maintenance; safe procedures and observation; safe driving and handling of tractors; hitching and manoeuvring with trailer implements; fitting and operation of PTOs; hitching and manoeuvring with mounted implements; basic use of a tractor mounted loader

You will need: a maximum of 2 students per tractor; one tractor must have a loader and attachment (i.e., bucket). Small tipper trailer, material for loading (i.e., muck or gravel, etc.), PTO driven 3-point linkage mounted equipment (i.e, topper, fert spinner, etc.). Safe area to operate.

Tractor Driving on Slopes

Accreditation: LANTRA

Price: vary depending on numbers and specific training needs

Course length: one day, introduction

Who it's for: This course is perfect for any experienced tractor driver who is, or will be, required to drive a tractor on sloping land. If you're already competent at driving a tractor on normal land, this is intended to develop and expand your tractor driving knowledge and confidence.

Course objectives: Understand the main causes of accidents involving tractors on slopes; recognise the safe working slope for tractor implement combinations on typical ground surface conditions; measure slopes in field conditions; be able to assess the suitability of any ground, before you drive over it; prepare and perform the necessary maintenance to ensure the safety of a tractor on a slope; to perform adjustments to your tractor and machinery to increase its safety potential; safely operate a tractor on sloping land with a variety of tractor implement combinations on typical ground surface conditions; identify the onset of a potential 'loss of control' situation.

Course sessions: Accident causes; experimental investigation; maintenance; practical preparation; practical assessment of slopes; reporting back; driving on slopes; warning signs; additional factors.
